Online betting diary – October 2013

October 2013

22nd October, 3pm

Well England are off to the World Cup! A 2-0 win over Poland sealed their place at the finals next year, and also brought in another winning bet for us. If you recall, we had two possible bets to choose from, depending on the team Hodgson picked. His selection was a positive one again, with Andros Townsend retaining his starting position, so the bet we went for was £50 on England to win, at odds of 1.25. They did make us sweat a bit, and it wasn’t until Gerrard’s late second goal that the win was safe.

There’s some more International football coming up in November, when England entertain Chile and Germany in friendlies. We’ll have a look at those two games a little closer to the time, but for now, all that remains to be said is congratulations to England, and roll on Brazil!

14th October, 2pm

We’re a couple of weeks into October and with the current round of international matches we’ve yet to make a bet. However, with crunch time tomorrow for a number of the big teams it’s time for us to get involved. The main event for many is at 8pm tomorrow at Wembley. England face Poland knowing the victory will take them to the World Cup in Brazil next summer. Let’s have a look at the match odds:

England 1.25
Draw 6.8
Poland 16.5

So England strongly fancied to get the job done against a Polish team with nothing to play for. But does that mean they will sit back and get rolled over? Not likely. The England fans will be hoping that Hodgson goes for a similar line up to Friday, when their attacking intent was clear from the moment the team was announced. A similar approach should pay dividends, but it remains to be seen if he opts for a more conservative line up against a Polish side that can certainly be a danger on the break.

So before we know the answer to that, lets consider two different betting approaches, based on whether or not he picks the same side.

Bet 1.

Same team selected, although note that Ashley Cole may come back in for Baines, but we would consider this as the same side for betting purposes.

Suggested outcome – England go all out for the win, potentially score early and win the game.

Suggested bet – England to win. £50 at 1.25.

Bet 2.

Townsend drops to the bench, with the more defensively minded Milner brought in to protect against the stronger Polish forward play.

Suggested outcome – England win, but the game is tighter, and is level for the first half.

Suggested bet – England to win, but it to be 0-0 at half time. £10 at 5.0 (Half time / Full time market)

So wait for the team news, then place your bet based on the scenarios above. Hopefully he won’t change a winning team. Enjoy the game.

7th October, 4pm

We’re a week into October already and the next big games are the World Cup qualifiers at the weekend. Stay tuned and we’ll have a bet when we’ve had a look at the teams.
