Online betting diary – June 2011

June 2011

29th June, 5pm

Update from Friday – Noodles Blue Boy was just a length off winning at Newcastle, so a small profit from the each way portion of the bet.

Been keeping a close eye on the tennis this week, and had considered the Federer match this afternoon as a good one for a bet on the outsider. But 2 sets in it really didn’t look that way, and on Betfair you could have layed Roger Federer at 1.01. Not often does he lose from this position, but thats precisely what he did, as Tsonga surged back to win it 3 sets to 2.

No bet today, but once the semi final line ups are confirmed we’ll be looking closely at the odds with a view to getting on at that point.

24th June, 5pm

Nothing on the tennis has yet taken my fancy, hopefully week 2 of Wimbledon will have a little more appeal than the first.

This is rather late notice, but I have a tip for a fancied horse in the 19:25 at Newcastle tonight. The horse is Noodles Blue Boy and is currently trading at around 15s on Betfair.

I’m going to have a small each way bet on this though, so instead will be betting with Betfred who currently have it priced up at 12/1.

A fiver each way for me.

If you haven’t yet joined Betfred, remember that they have a fantastic £50 free bet available for new customers!

20th June, 12pm

Thankfully the decision yesterday to leave the U21s match was a good one. England U21s at 2.2 looked like a value price on Betfair, and I was disappointed not to have taken it on as things stood on 89 minutes. However, its not over until the final whistle, and England – as they seem prone to do – threw it away. Not only did they fail to win, but they managed to turn almost certain victory into a defeat when the Czech side scored on the break with the last kick of the game. Disappointing for England fans, but at least it has not cost us in the wallet this time.

Today sees the start of Wimbledon, and there will be plenty opportunties for a bet over the coming fortnight. I always like to see the first round for a bit of form before getting stuck in, but there should be an interest by the middle of the week.

Final word today has to be that of congratulations to Rory McIlroy, who ended a superb US Open tournament last night with his first major. An enormous 8 shot win at the end was fully deserved, we’ll be seeing a lot more of the young Northern Irishman. From a betting perspective, it is unlikely we’ll see the sort of prices again that he started this tournament with, money changed hands on Betfair at a huge 30-1 pre-tournament. Someone has made some serious money there.

16th June, 1pm.

Today is a quiet day for football. A look at the other sports is showing little value, at the moment it is likely that the next bet will be on Saturday when the U21s resume.

16th June, 10am.

Result from 15th June. England U21s 0 – 0 Ukraine U21s.

The England forward line had a number of decent chances to win this, but the finishing was not up to scratch. Sadly this goes down as a near miss.

15th June, 1pm.

June started out as a fairly quiet month for football, but by mid-June the U21s tournament was up and running and there’s now enough form in the book to get started. Following the draw against Spain at the weekend, tonight sees England’s 2nd game against the Ukraine.

A win tonight would leave England well placed, particularly if Spain – as expected – win their game against the Czech Republic side. Should this be the case, England would move into the final game knowing they just need to avoid defeat to progress from the group. Therefore I believe they will be going all out to take the 3 points tonight.

England start the match as favourites, perhaps a little recognition here that the game against Spain was not quite as bad as some sections of the press made out. As things stand the layers on Betfair have England at odds of 1.76, for me this is worth a point of my betting bank. Remember that with Betfair you will be able to request higher odds and bet or trade in-play should you wish to do so.

If you haven’t got a Betfair account yet, there’s still time to join up before kick off. Free Bet Source is proud to offer the best available Betfair free bet online, you can find more information on this on the £30 Betfair promo page.

I’ll be investing £20 that England can do the business tonight.
