So no great surprises amongst the favourites, with Nadal odds-on and Serena Williams barely better than even money. The mens tournament has been domininated by one name recently, with the Spanish clay court specialist Nadal having had a monopoly on it for a number of years now. In fact, Nadal has won it 7 of the last 8 years, with the only exception being Federer’s triumph in 2009, in a year when Nadal was knocked out by finalist Robin Soderling. This year Nadal is odds-on again, and it’s easy to see why!
The womens tournament promises to be a little less predictable, and at least here the favourite is better than even money. The bookies have installed Serena Williams at around 2.1, with next best shot Maria Sharapova priced up at around 4.5. But this is no shoe-in for Williams, she has only made the final once, beating her sister Venus way back in 2002. After the unpredictable talent of Sharapova as second favourite comes Azarenka at 6.5, with the rest of the field 10s or better. If Williams and Sharapova aren’t on top form, the title could easily go to a 10-1 or better shot, with a field of Na, Stosur and Errani all entirely capable of winning it on their day.
A little nearer the start of the tournament our very own tipster will be analysing the tournament and trying to pick a winner from both the mens and the womens, keep an eye on the bet of the day just before all the action starts in France.
