Online betting diary – September 2013

September 2013

23rd September, 2pm

We placed a fairly large bet on Man Utd v Crystal Palace last week, and the good news was a 2-0 win. It was perhaps closer than expected, with United not especially convincing at times. Ashley Young embarrassed himself again and it took a debatable decision to bring the penalty that ultimately settled the game. Still, when you back a short price at Old Trafford, you know that these sort of decisions can always go in your favour! We’ll take the profit and move on.

Check back soon for the next bet.

11th September, 2pm

We’ve had a fairly quiet summer betting-wise, but we’re going to get right back into it now the football season is well and truly under way. Well, we say it’s under way, but with International commitments there is a bit of a stop / start feel to the top divisions this year, with another round of qualifiers coming up in a month or so. It was good news for England last night, despite a rather drab game, they secured an important point to stay top of their qualifying group. Difficult to appreciate some of the football, but it was absolutely vital that they didn’t lose in the Ukraine, and it has to be seen as a job well done against a talented side, who England subdued very well all night.

This weekend the Premier League is back, lets take a look at the fixtures:

Saturday 14th September 2013

Man Utd v Crystal Palace

Aston Villa v Newcastle
Fulham v West Brom
Hull v Cardiff
Stoke v Man City
Sunderland v Arsenal
Tottenham v Norwich

Everton v Chelsea

Sunday 15th September 2013

Southampton v West Ham

Monday 16th September 2013

Swansea v Liverpool

Plenty of decent looking matches here, and with 4 of them on live TV there’s going to be plenty to keep an eye on over the weekend. It all starts at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime, and Manchester United will already be thinking that maximum points are an absolute must. After losing last time out at Anfield, having been held the week before by Chelsea, and with Man City next up, a chance to take 3 points at home to Palace is one that Moyes absolutely can not pass up.

Current odds:

Man Utd 1.22
Draw 7.6
Crystal Palace 17.5

It seems a bit early in the season for a must win game, but if United do fail here, then fail to win at City, they could quite easily be in the bottom half of the table after 5 games. Early days yes, but in such a competitive league they can’t allow the other teams such a head start, even if they have got some of their tougher games out the way.

All of which is a round about sort of way of saying that United look absolutely nailed on for the win. 1.22 is a low price, but if you played this game 10 times over, United would win 9 of them. For me, that says value. We’re going to plump for a decent bet here and get our football betting off to a winning start this season.

Todays bet.

Saturday 14th September, 12:45.

Man Utd v Crystal Palace. Man Utd to win, £50 @ 1.22
